TIPS FOR THINNING HAIR

We all want our hair to look as healthy as possible, but unfortunately as we get older, we’re more susceptible to thinning hair.

The good news is there are ways to treat and boost hair growth!

Keep on reading for our tips to help combat fine, thinning hair:

DON’T SKIP CONDITIONER

Neglecting to treat your hair with conditioner can cause dehydration, which can leave your hair feeling brittle and damaged. Ensure that you are using conditioners that contain panthenol and glycerine that help restore moisture and maintain your hair’s strength. Kerastase’s Fondant Densite is a great bodifying conditioner that weightlessly helps to restore thinning hair.

LOOK AFTER YOUR SCALP

Healthy scalp = healthy hair. Massaging your scalp is the most effective way to produce healthy circulation, that nourishes the hair follicles, which nourishes hair follicles, stimulating hair growth. Did we also mention how amazing it feels!? This is why we include a scalp massage with every cut and colour appointment.

We offer a Kerastase Diagnosis where our stylists will look at your hairs current condition using the Kerastase Diagnostic Camera. We can magnify the hair fibre to gain understanding of your hair and scalp which enables us to determine what it needs to achieve optimal health.

We can then prescribe you your own personalised hair care regime to ensure we get your hair looking it’s best – and the best part, did we mention that it’s complimentary?

THICKEN INDIVIDUAL STRANDS

If your hair is quite fine, or loses shape quickly, work towards increasing the density of each individual strand of your hair, to ultimately build thickness.

Using the miracle-working Aveda Thickening Tonic, combined with Redken’s PH Bonder, which will ensure your hair is protected from further loss or damage while colouring.

TURN DOWN THE HEAT

For fine hair, it’s best to limit the amount of heat you use to style your hair, as it can make it dry and brittle, leading to breakage. Try to blow-dry your hair until it’s only lightly damp, leaving the last part to dry naturally in the air. If you’re straightening your hair, make sure you avoid over straightening, especially on the ends, as they are the most susceptible to damage.

We’d recommend investing in the ghd platinum +. It’s predictive technology and heat control will avoid overheating your hair unnecessarily as it adjusts to the thickness and condition of your hair.

We’d also recommend using the Thermique range from Kerastase which are essential for heat protection and healthier heatstyling.

STYLE CUTS

If you’re concerned that your hair is looking flat and lifeless all over, talk to our cutting experts about introducing some invisible layers, which will instantly open up your face and give the illusion of volume and texture. Don’t be nervous to cut fine hair. It’s a common misconception that your hair will look thicker if you don’t get it cut. Regular cuts are best for thinning hair, as they will prevent your ends from becoming stringy and transparent. Don’t put off booking your next appointment!
