TAKE THE GUILT OUT OF HEAT STYLING with the ghd platinum

Posted on 15TH JULY 2015

Finally, there is a styler which takes the guilt out of heat stying! The new innovative ghd platinum styler uses safer-for-hair heat that delivers ultimate styling results from roots to ends! Intelligent tri-zone technology dispels the myth of 'higher the heat, straighter the hair', as the real secret is to maintain the optimum styling temperature at all times!

Developed by ghd scientists, the ghd platinum uses three sensors in each plate, ensuring the optimum temperature for styling hair is consistently maintained across the entire plate during styling. These sensors ensure there is no sudden surge or drop in temperature – both of which can be detrimental to hair health and styling results.

Dr Tim Moore, Chief Technology Officer at ghd’s Research and Development Facility in Cambridge, UK explains:
“With tri-zone technology you’re styling with a consistent temperature of 185°C from root to tip, which is the optimal temperature for styling hair. When you style at temperatures that are too high you start to damage the hair, resulting in more breakage and loss of colour.”

Styling with the ghd platinum is proven to be kinder to your hair colour as well as reducing hair breakage by over 50%* and increasing shine by 20%**.

The days of having to compromise hair health for style are over. With the introduction of the innovative ghd platinum, you can achieve stylish and healthy-looking hair without causing any long-term hair damage, all in one stroke!

The new ghd platinum styler is now available for purchase at all Oscar Oscar Salon locations.

Results based on tri-zone technology:
*vs a styler working at 230°C **vs untreated hair
† 2x more colour integrity vs a styler working at 230°

GET THE LOOK: Blake Lively’s Old-Hollywood Glam Waves

Posted on 9TH JULY 2015

She’s the Hollywood A-Lister that has perfected every hairstyle to date: the chignon, the fishtail, the braid, the bun, the pony, the quiff, boho chic; you name it, Blake Lively has undoubtedly owned it!

There is one look in particular however, that has become known as Blake's signature style, which 'WOWS' the world every time she steps out onto the red carpet. You guessed it; Old-Hollywood Glam Waves!

For professional insight, we consulted Oscar Oscar’s new Style Director/Senior Technician Will, on exactly how to achieve Blake’s ever-glamorous Hollywood waves, and Artistic and Technical Director Lisa, on how to achieve Blake's honey golden blonde colour.

How do we achieve Blake’s look?

1. First thing’s first, preparation is key! Prep wet hair with a volume increasing product, such as Kerastase’s Materialiste Thickening Spray. Using your finger tips, massage the product into the scalp, and then apply hairspray to coat the hair with a strong foundation to shape later on.

2. Blast-dry hair and smooth out with a round brush, parting hair into three sections along the crown, and side part lines. Be careful not to smooth or straighten too much as this will counteract the wave.

3. Now that preparation is done, it’s time to get the waves started! GHD’s creative curl wand is magic, and literally does all the work for you. Work your way curling each section. Then, in a raking motion, use your fingers to separate the waves. For a softer wave, use a brush to loosen the curls. Once complete, apply Kerastase Volumifique hairspray to hold in place!

In this look, Blake has lightened and broken up her full blonde colouring with honey-toned microfoils. Microfoils are subtle seamless highlights that accentuate colour around the hairline, to give that effortless sun-kissed look. Blake also has freehand balayage lightening around her cheekbone regions, for added texture to her long hair. To achieve this type of colouring, please contact your favourite salon for a professional consultation.

In order to get an idea of which tones will suit you, look at the back of your wrist; blue colouring signifies that you will suit cooler tones, and green colouring conveys that warmer tones will suit.

Braiding: fresh from the runway

Posted on 1ST JULY 2015

It's official, the traditional schoolyard braid has transitioned from the playground to the runway. We spoke with our braiding expert Julie Vranic from Oscar Oscar Southland, to get the low-down on this season's most sought after looks!

Skeletal French Braid
"Diane Kruger's skeletal french braid is simply genius! Cornrow down the centre of the head, then pull sides of hair into a loose french braid over the cornrow with a little window left at the top so that the cornrow is peeking through. Keep the hair smooth, as this style does not need extra texture added!"

Textured Fishtail
"For all the long-haired ladies out there, who are having trouble styling their manes, the textured fishtail braid is about to become your new best friend. Gather hair into a high pony, and tease for extra thickness, then proceed to fishtail down the pony. As seen in the pic below, Audrina Patridge has extra hair pulled from the braid to create maximum texture for a chic yet effortless look."

The Bohemian Upstyle
"It's Friday night and there is no time to wash your hair - DON'T WORRY! Simply: tease, braid, and pin! Julianne Hough wears the braid relatively smoothly in this image, however do not be afraid to get messy with this style!"

Crown Heart Braid with Bow
"I love creating new and intricate braids in Salon! This is a modern take on the up-style, perfect for formal events. The heart shape braid brings a touch of romance into the design, contrasted with the simple middle part and delicate bangs at the front. This look can also be achieved when the hair is worn down, for a softer end result."

To achieve the perfect braid, and to maximise texture and volume, Oscar Oscar Salons uses Kerastase's Matérialiste all-over thickening spray gel. The diameter of each fibre is immediately expanded, resulting in visibly & tactilely fuller, denser hair matter. Hair is weightlessly texturised, easier to style, yet retains its cosmetic touch and allure.

Where there's a Will, there's a way!

Posted on 29TH JUNE 2015

The luck of the Irish is definitely rubbing off on Oscar Oscar Robina, as they welcome new Style Director & Senior Technician, Will Allen, to the team! We chatted with Will regarding his vast industry experience, where his styling inspiration comes from, as well as his hair trend predictions for the coming season!

How long have you been in the industry?
I've been working in the industry for just over 13 years to date. I feel privileged to have worked throughout Ireland, Los Angeles, London, as well as different parts of Australia. I love that my journey has now brought me to the beautiful Gold Coast, working as part of a highly creative, luxury salon team!

What is your role, and what does it involve?
My role in salon is that of a Style Director/ Senior Technician, looking after guests for both styling and colour services. Creating beautiful, wearable styles for my guests is my primary goal. I love educating people on their hair type, styles to suit their personality and lifestyle, as well as how to properly care for their hair at home. Being actively involved in coaching and training emerging team members is also a big passion of mine.

What are your favourite styling trends in salon at the moment?
There is a wide variety of styles that I love to create. Anything from short and edgy crops to long and voluptuous waves. Experimenting with a soft textured up-do or a structured editorial look is always good fun too. It's great seeing your work in magazines or on the internet however, I also adore working with guests in salon, seeing their look transformed by an exquisite colour or that perfect style cut. All in all, it's a very rewarding career.

Who inspires you?
Definitely Alexander McQueen. Even though he is a fashion designer, his collections represent every inch of imagination and inspiration he has in his mind. He brings his wildest dreams and imaginations to life!

Hairstyle predictions for the coming season?
Waves and glamour have been a big part of 2015 already, so I think we might see the traditional glamour wave adapt with a structured edge. For example, combining braids with glamour blow-waves or structured cuts with a tousled texture is perfect for Spring.

Favourite styling product right now and why?
Two of my favourite products at the moment are from the Shu Uemura Art of Hair collection. The first is the Texture Wave spray, which is a dry workable product that gives a long lasting movable hold to pump up those beachy waves. The second is the Sheer Lacquer finishing spray. The particles are micro fine which creates a smooth end result without clumping. It is a beautiful finishing product with lots of hold, perfect for those night's out when you want your hair set in position all night long!

Festival season is heating up around the country, flooding our social media feeds with beautiful braids, luscious natural bo-ho waves and, celeb inspired styling.

We asked Oscar Oscar Paddington's Technical and Artistic Director, Michael Kelly, for his top 5 looks from Coachella 2015 to ensure you're festival ready this season!

Kate Bosworth - Coachella Style Queen
Kate’s colour is a beautiful baby butter-blonde, with balayage. The front of the fringe is then corn rowed down the centre of her head, becoming almost an accessory in the hair! Complementing this look is a simple white dress topped with a lace and linen crop jacket. Bosworth takes the prize of Coachella style queen in my mind, as her look is very unique and also, effortlessly cool."

Gigi Hadid - Galactic Girl
Gigi’s signature tousled beach waves were on display at this year’s Coachella! Her surfer- girl vibe was further enhanced by her dark re-growth. and melted blonde caramel tones. Whilst her makeup is minimal, the facial jewellery completes the look, and provides a galactic warrior vibe!"

Marina of 'Marina and the Diamonds' - Fiercely Retro
"What I love about Marina’s look here, is that her hair is undone and naturally textured! Natural flowing hair works works for this look, considering how retro-glam the rest of her outfit is. A lot of people tend to think that the ideal festival hair length is long and flowing, however Marina proves that shoulder length hair can look just as fierce, if not more! Team this look with some high reflective cat eye glasses, and you literally can't go wrong!"

Kylie Jenner - Braided Beauty
"Reviewing all of Kylie Jenner’s Coachella looks, this is my absolute favourite! Kylie rocks Mahican braids with a soft natural hairline, accessorized with white hair paint! Surprisingly, this look is fairly easy to achieve, and remember the more texture added, the better! Kylie completes the look with a thin white ribbon wound around the bottom of her plait. This look is extremely creative, but at the same time, achievable!"

Bella Thorne - Festival Angel
"Thorne's look is extremely classy, with her gorgeous Victoria's Secret-esque hair, she just looks angelic! A simple middle part, paired with a vivacious hair colour completes the look. Don't be afraid to trial a different hair colour around festival season! It can be a great excuse to experiment with a colour you would otherwise not think of trying! Make sure you consult a stylist before making the bold move, as we can help prescribe the right colours and tones to suit your skin, for the best result."

The Evolution of Kim Kardashian's Hair

Posted on 8TH APRIL 2015

Kim Kardashian has established herself as one of the most iconic modern style and beauty trendsetters of the twenty-first century. We spoke with Artistic and Technical Director from Oscar Oscar Chermside, Michael Newton, regarding why Kim's hair continues to turn heads.

"Kim's sleek, shiny, and dishevelled fringe frames her face and enhances her eyes. To achieve: Prep damp hair with Shu Uemura Satin Design Polishing Milk to control frizz. Blow dry straight, and finish with Shu Uemura Touch Of Gloss melt-in wax to amplify shine and maintain smoothness."

"This is my personal fave - soft seamless balayage with tousled glam waves. To achieve: Use a round brush when blow drying, and twist the hair around the brush in the direction you want the wave to go. Gently remove brush, leaving the section twisted, then shape through with fingers to create the soft wave."

"Kim's transition to chestnut tones was the perfect colour refresh, taking her away from her signature dark tresses. Since this colour is slightly lighter than Kim's natural colour, it is relatively easy to maintain and can be enhanced by caramel highlights. Kim nails the look here by complementing her hair colour with a predominantly natural make-up palette."

"This look is all in the roots! To achieve: Prep hair (when dry) with Kerastase 'VIP' Volume in Powder, to give texture and body to the roots. Use a curling wand to guide hair away from face in a loose but structured manner. You can finish the look by spraying on Shu Uemura's Detail Master Spray to give the curl pliable definition."

"Kim's lob (long bob) is perfectly styled with a disheveled curl. To achieve: create a deep part to one side of the head and loosely curl the hair in alternate directions. Brush out the curl and finish with Shu Uemura Liquid Fabric mineral texture spray to revitalize and invigorate hair, for longer lasting curls."

MARCH 2015
"When Kim stepped out in Paris with platinum hair, she sent the world into an absolute cyber frenzy! However, after a week, even Kim was having trouble maintaining a clean blonde tone. At this stage, it is best to consult a stylist, who can help prescribe a toner which will suit your hair. Don't forget: a regular treatment, such as Kerastase's Fusio Dose in-salon treatment, will help restore vitality and moisture to hair, after a dramatic colour transformation."

When considering making a dramatic change to your hair, it is best to leave it to the professionals! This way you can have a personal consultation with a qualified stylist. Oscar Oscar can help guide you through choosing the right style cut or colour, to best suit you. Contact your favourite Oscar Oscar salon today for a personal style consultation!

Oscar Oscar Paddington Salon Partner, Paloma Rose Garcia, was last night awarded NSW/ACT Hairdresser of the Year, at the 2015 Australian Hair Fashion Awards, for her collection ‘EXTERIORITY’.

Cementing her position as one of Australia’s most successful hairdressers, Paloma outshone some of the state’s top hairdressers and aspiring creatives, to win her category at last night’s ceremony, held at Sydney’s Luna Park.

“Being named the NSW/ACT Hairdresser of the Year means everything to me! I have dreamt of this day since I started my career 13 years ago,” said Paloma.

“To have my collection ‘EXTERIORITY’ recognised on a scale as significant as the AHFA’s is an incredible feeling like no other.”

When discussing her vision behind the ‘EXTERIORITY’ collection, Paloma explains that the natural elements of contrast, texture, softness and strength, had a great influence on her collection.

“EXTERIORITY is unlike any of the other collections I have created, as I was working predominantly with short hair, which was very challenging.”

Paloma has been with the Oscar Oscar Salons team for ten years and is a salon owner, partnering with Oscar Cullinan in the Sydney flagship salon.

Since becoming a member of the Redken Artistic Team in 2013, Paloma has also worked closely with Redken and is grateful for the influence this has had on her career.

“Oscar Oscar Salons and Redken have assisted me with so much personal and professional development over the course of my career, they are the reason I am who I am today,” she said.

Oscar Oscar Salons are excited to support the launch of the first youth activator for hair from Kérastase Paris, Densifique Sérum Jeunesse.

Kérastase Paris - the world’s leading hair and scalp care experts, developed Densifique Sérum Jeunesse to combat the effects of time on hair quality, restoring hair youth and vitality, with visible results in 30 days.*

Oscar Cullinan, Founder and Director of Oscar Oscar Salons, knows that helping guests feel fresh, vibrant and above all youthful, is a integral part of offering a world class luxury guest experience.

“A lot of people don't realise that hair, like skin, ages. Signs of ageing hair can include uneven colouring (greying), a lack of shine, brittle strands, rough texture, and just unmanageable hair in general. However, the effects of ageing can be delayed, and now with Kérastase’s new product, we can do just this,” explains Oscar.

Leading Australian clinical and research dermatologist and foremost expert in age related disorders of the scalp, Professor Rodney Sinclair, acknowledges the importance of Kérastase developing Densifique Sérum Jeunesse.

“The idea of a simple serum that is applied to the scalp to address the two key concerns people have with ageing hair (hair loss and discoloration) is a major step forward,” says Sinclair.

In Australia, 60% of women experience greying**, and even after meticulously colouring hair to conceal the greys, degradation in hair quality can be seen and felt.

The Densifique Sérum Jeunesse formula contains the most powerful antioxidant complex, to help amplify hair density, restore shine, strength and suppleness.

Kerastase’s Densifique Sérum Jeunesse is applied to clean, towel dried hair, from the mid lengths to the ends and directly on the scalp before styling as desired. Its weightless texture immediately melts into the hair, leaving behind a delicate, 'woody floral' scent - the signature of the Densifique range.

The Densifique Sérum Jeunesse is the newest addition to Kerastase's Densifique Absolu Collection, which includes a bodifying bath, regenerating masque, a thickening treatment mousse and intense densifing in-salon ritual.

Densifique Sérum Jeunesse is now available at all Oscar Oscar Salons.

Recently our Gold Coast Salon Partner and Master Hair Stylist, Jessica Longhurst, teamed up with Robina Town Centre for a photo shoot showcasing the bohemian luxe trend for 2015.

“The aim in this shoot was to create a luxury version of the traditional beach wave. As you can see in the pictures, the bohemian luxe hairstyle is a staple for almost every outfit and a style that works for all occasions - both casual and classy,” explains Jess.

    - Once all of the curls are in place, soften each curl by brushing through with an oval dressing brush from ghd. Make sure to spray each section with the Kerastase V.I.P (volume in powder) spray to create a light floaty finish achieving the bohemian luxe wave.

Paloma Rose Garcia presents 'EXTERIORITY'

Posted on 27TH FEBRUARY 2015

Oscar Oscar Paddington Salon Partner, Paloma Rose Garcia, has been revealed as a finalist in the 2015 Australian Hair Fashion Awards NSW/ACT Hairdresser of the Year category!

Showcasing the future direction of hair, the EXTERIORITY collection is an original interpretation of refined modern hair with a focus on texture, shape, and movement.

"When I first started developing ideas and influences for this new collection I took a break from life in the city and spent a few days surrounded by nature. I love the contrast you find in nature, the soft smooth leaves against jagged dry bark, grains of sand that are as hard as glass yet they melt through your hands and a soft breeze that can transform into a wind storm within minutes. These ideas of contrast, texture, softness and strength became the basis for my new collection,” explains Paloma.

When discussing her perspective on the future of hair in fashion, Paloma recalls, “The future of hair fashion should no longer be defined by trends, fashion is a melting pot of inspiration. I believe modern hair has a feel, it is not something that has been done, or is being done… It’s the future and it is fresh. My collection is an artistic expression of shapes and textures to excite.”

Paloma is a regular stylist for magazine editorial shoots with features in publications such as Vogue, Marie Claire, Oyster, YEN, Russh, and Cleo. Recently, Paloma also acted as the director of hair for the exclusive ‘Hermes On The Beach’ Spring Summer 2015 Swimwear Event, held in Sydney.

Turning Heads on the Red Carpet: Oscars 2015

Posted on 25TH FEBRUARY 2015

We can always count on the Academy Awards to deliver some serious style and hair inspo, and this year the awards did not disappoint! We spoke with Oscar Oscar Doncaster Style Director, Sarah Brooks, regarding the hairstyles that turned heads on the night, plus how to get the look!

Swept Back Textured Bun

"This is my favourite look of the evening, modern and simple with a nod to the classic bun style for sophistication. The style can be achieved on longer or shorter hair and amped up as much as you like!"

Rosamund Pike, Sienna Miller, Cate Blanchett, Scarlett Johannsen

- Shampoo and condition hair with Shu Uemura Muroto Volume for the perfect foundation.

- Work a small amount of Shu Uemura Fibre Lift into the root area and a golf ball size amount of Shu Uemura Ample Angora mousse into your midlengths and ends.

- Blow wave hair away from the face, concentrating on smoothing out any cowlicks in order to create a relatively straight style throughout.

- When finished, spray Shu Uemura Texture Wave in sections through the hair.

- Using fingers, rake the hair back from the face, maintaining texture around the face and through the top. Secure the rest of the hair with an elastic and form into a bun. Hold in place with pins.

- You can then use the pointed end of a tail comb to gently pull some of the hair from the top of the head up to create more texture or a slightly quiffed look.

- Finish entire style with a light mist of Shu Uemura Sheer Lacquer.

Vintage Glam

"This style is timeless. The soft waves make for an innocent and graceful look that can be worn as an classic up-do, or down for evening glamour."

Emma Stone, Chrissy Teigan, Keira Knightly

- Begin by applying one to two pumps of Kerastase Lift Vertige on wet hair through the root area. Work a golf ball size amount of Kerastase Mousse Bouffant through mid lengths and ends.

- Blow wave into the hair and create volume either with a round brush, or if easier, tip head upside down and direct all hair to the crown.

- Once dry, use GHD curve classic curl tong to set the hair. Begin at the nape of the neck, dividing hair by 1 inch sections, wrap around the tong and clamp for 30 seconds. Slide tong out of curled section, then continue through the rest of hair.

- Spray through Kerastase V.I.P Volume In Powder, concentrating mainly on the roots. Next use a brush to gently collect hair together and form your ultimate style.

- Finish by spraying Kerastase Laque Couture for supreme hold and mist Kerastase Gloss Appeal lightly for ultimate shine.

Ever wondered how to have perfect beach goddess hair all summer long? Oscar Oscar Robina salon partner and Gold Coast local, Jess Longhurst, shares some words of wisdom when it comes to warding off frizzy ends and faded colour this summer season.

What are the most common problems you see in the Salon during Summer?

Excessive sun exposure and salt always creates problems, especially if you’re already prone to split ends. We tend to see a lot of colour fade as well as dry and brittle ends at this time of year.

How can blondes preserve their colour if spending lots of time at the beach or in the pool?

Protecting your hair, like you do your skin, is very important before you go in the water. Kerastase Micro-Voile Protecteur acts as a sunscreen for the hair. Just a decent spritz before you head out by the pool will help preserve your colour and stop it fading in the sun.

Also don't forget to rinse your hair in fresh water as soon as you can. Washing your hair with a cleaning shampoo such as Bain Apres-Soleil by Kerastase will help remove any chlorine as well as prevent those nasty green tones spoiling your beautiful blonde.

Which celebrity inspired hairstyle would you recommend this Summer season for being super easy to maintain?

Marianna Hewitt has summer hair to die for! This style is the perfect length for that effortless summer look. A medium length cut with a little texture through the ends, but with minimal layers, will help you achieve some beach inspired waves. This style can also easily be transformed into a glamorous evening look.

How can we best care for our hair at home in between our Salon visits?

Home haircare is really important. Making sure you are using a quality foundation product for your hair and scalp prescribed to you by your stylist is the first step. Regular treatments and priming products will help too.

Which hair care products are an absolute beach bag must have?

Shu Uemura - Depsea Moisture Foundation. It’s the perfect style refresher as it re-hydrates the hair leaving it with weightless texture.

Also Kerastase Spray-a- porta. This is tousled spray that can be used wet-to-dry to add texture to your blow-dry or you can spray onto dry hair to give it a sea salt relaxed feel.

Melbourne is lovingly referred to as the Australian fashion capitol by many, but ask any fashion forward local and they can tell you that each pocket is identifiable by it's own fashion vibe, trends and celebrity inspired style.

Experts in their own ‘burbs’ and all things hair are Oscar Oscar Salon Partners Jacky Chan (from St Kilda) and Nathan Armagnacq (Chadstone). We talked with both about the unique trends and fashion identifiers in their individual precincts.

Nathan Armagnacq from Chadstone (left), Jacky Chan from St Kilda (right).

How would you describe Melbourne style specific to the suburbs you operate in and cater to?

Jacky: St Kilda has such an eclectic vibe about it; think bohemian luxe with a rock edge. It’s a melting pot of people from different walks of life, cultures and backgrounds that reflects strongly in the work we produce in salon.

Nathan: Chadstone pulls customers from all over Melbourne so the fashion styles we see here are varied, everything from luxe Mums to mega hipsters! We do see a lot of long hair at Chaddy, which we love. We produce a lot of ‘done but undone’ styling with an edge of European glamour, also soft silhouettes and seamless blended hair colour.

How would you describe your individual in-salon vibe - Chadstone compared to St Kilda?

Jacky: Because our St Kilda salon is located near the beach, plus being such an iconic holiday destination, it definitely has a more relaxed and chilled vibe about it.

Nathan: The vibe at Chadstone is busy but always fun and light! Our premium salon fit out provides our guests with that CBD city salon feel but with the convenience of being located in a major shopping centre. The St Kilda salon is very cool like a London high street salon. It’s on vibrant Acland St where you can see the trams running alongside cafes, boutiques and the beach.

What were the most requested celebrity inspired styles for 2014 in your Salon?

Jacky: Definitely Rose Byrne…the "it" length!

Nathan: Kim Kardashian was a popular request with our younger guests in 2014. Olivia Wilde and Lara Bingle have also been guest favourites!

Style icons Rose Byrne (left) and Kim Kardashian (right).

What are your predictions for 2015 styling trends?

Jacky: Undone styles either up or down are my prediction. Not to be mistaken with the natural looks seen in 2014. Think more disheveled, wind blown and slept on.

Nathan: My predictions for 2015 is a return to texture and wide volume. Not height but width!

What is one hair product you never leave home without?

Jacky: Our exclusive Shu Uemura Texture Wave. It’s a dry workable spray that helps to create buildable grip and a fuller end result.

Nathan: The Shu Uemura Volume Maker brush is a must have. It gives ultimate volume in a handy mini stick.

Our Melbourne styling guru, Jacky Chan from Oscar Oscar Salons in St Kilda, recently worked with some gorgeous talent from Brazen Models to create luxurious up-styles and textured waves.

"This shoot was a lot of fun, it was all about creating and building texture and volume by playing with my favourite Shu Uemura products, ghd curve styling tools and Fronis Hair wefts which are great for added volume and length. I aimed to create luxe hair with a tough styling edge, while also making sure the hair remained commercial and wearable." Jacky Chan

Leandra Medine of the Man Repeller recently visited Australia to promote Sass & Bide's incredible new resort collection at their James St boutique in Queensland. Our talented Brisbane hairdressers, Justin McLachlan & Sharnah-Louise were on-hand to style Leandra's hair with a perfect top-knot to compliment the chic styling of the new Sass & Bide campaign.

GET THE LOOK with Justin McLachlan:

"This is the perfect no-fuss hairstyle. Top-knots give your look a modern-edge and are perfect for summer's party season."

- Start by spritzing dry hair with Kérastase Spray å Porter and dry this into the hair using a hairdryer.

- Next create soft tousled waves throughout your hair using a large curling tong, such as the new ghd curve collection.

- Break up the curls by raking your fingers through your hair. Don't use a brush, as you want the hair to be messy and dishevelled.

- Again using your fingers, pull your hair back into a high ponytail and secure with a clear elastic.

- Twist the ponytail onto itself so that you create a bun and secure with bobby-pins

- Personalise the look by pinching & pulling sections of your hair at the crown to give it a more textured finish.

- Lightly spray the hair with Kérastase Lacque Noir hairspray

GET HER LOOK: Micah Gianneli

Posted on 4TH NOVEMBER 2014

One of Australia's leading fashion bloggers, Micah Gianneli is a style chameleon and one of our favourite guests from Oscar Oscar Salons in Westfield Southland. We talk to her about her personal style and how to maintain that perfect blonde crop.

Describe your style?

Personal, constantly evolving, chic and feminine with a tomboy edge at times ;)

What advice do you have for aspiring bloggers?

Remain true to your style, love what you do and work super hard!

What is your at-home hair care routine?

Now that it's platinum I have to take extra care and use lots of conditioning products including a violet conditioner to keep the yellow/ warm tones away. All products from Oscar Oscar!

What do you love most about Oscar Oscar Salons?

Aside from the impeccable service, I love the experience at the Southland salon. Robert Weir just gets me, he takes care of my hair and he is the first hair stylist I've ever had who is just on top of his game and was willing to go where no other stylist has gone before - and that's getting my hair to the level of iciness it's at today without it falling out!

Which trends are exciting you for summer?

I'm just excited about summer approaching! Mostly excited about having platinum hair that isn't a buzz cut ;)

What is your must-have hair product?

The must-have hair product for me at the moment is the Shu Uemura 'Color Lustre' shades reviving balm to help keep my platinum shade and keep yellows at bay.

GET HER LOOK: 'Micah's colour is so on-trend right now! It's an Ice blonde shade which I created using the Redken Blonde Glam lightener and toned to an ice pearl to remove any warmth, even though the colour is so light it is still luminous and glossy. Micah's tailor-made crop is also perfectly suited to her androgynous features and chameleon-like styling as it is very versatile. This look is best suited to people with symmetrical features and a strong jawline." Robert Weir, Oscar Oscar Salon - Southland

GET HER LOOK: Sigourney Cantelo

Posted on 3RD NOVEMBER 2014

One of Australia's leading ladies in beauty media, Sigourney Cantelo is the founder and editor of the chic beauty website www.beauticate.com, former beauty editor of Vogue magazine and a loyal guest of Oscar Oscar Salons. We chat to Sigourney about her personal hair care routine, trends and her inspiration behind the launch of Beauticate.

What inspired you to begin the Beauticate website?

Over my years in the industry as a beauty journalist I’ve met so many models, makeup artists, hair stylists and all round cool girls who have the most interesting beauty tips and tricks... I also had a few of my own I wanted to share. With Beauticate I wanted to create a beautiful space to share these things. I also have a background in TV (many years ago) so I’ve really enjoyed producing videos as well. There’s so much scope with digital, it’s pretty exciting.

Who has been your favourite interview?

I’ve met so many inspiring women and many have become friends. The gorgeous Paloma at Oscar Oscar is one example and we continue to work together whenever possible - she’s so good at her job and so passionate, it really shows when you speak to her and she loves teaching women how to get more out of their hair. Rosie Huntington Whitely was awesome, too, she’s so friendly and generous with her beauty tips.

Describe your hair care routine?

I’m pretty hopeless at hair, I have two left thumbs when it comes to styling. I wash it with whatever I’m testing that week (this week it’s Aveda Invati) and then roughly dry it. Occasionally I’ll squirt a couple of handfuls of mousse through it and a day or two later I’ll drench it in dry shampoo. If I have an event I book in with the team at Oscar Oscar in Paddington and they give me the most glamorous bouncy blowdry that I could never achieve myself.

What do you love most about Oscar Oscar Salons?

Paloma and her staff at Paddington are so warm and welcoming and they’re so talented at what they do. They are right at the forefront of trends but never force anything on you and they educate you about your hair as well so you leave more enlightened than when you sat down. I love having my colour done with Michael, he just does the most beautiful, natural colour.

What hair trends are exciting you for summer?

I love that hair is so undone and messy at the moment - suits my lack of styling skills to a T.

What is your must-have hair product?

Dry shampoo, such as Kérastase Volume in Powder.

"Sigourney is a modern take on classic beauty. Her hair is well groomed, yet effortless which compliments her fashion styling. To create this look use a large curling tong, such as the new ghd curve collection, and curl large sections of hair in alternating directions for a natural finish. I also recommend using Redken Rootful 06 on the roots and mid-lengths for texture and finish with Redken Fashion Work 12 hairspray." Mathew Jones

GET HER LOOK: Liz Cantor

Posted on 3RD NOVEMBER 2014

The vivacious Channel 7 TV presenter, Liz Cantor, is the ultimate beach babe based on the Gold Coast and one of our favourite guests at Oscar Oscar Salons in Pacific Fair. We talk to Liz about how to keep her hair looking healthy and why she loves Oscar Oscar Salons!

Describe your style? Understated! I am a no frills girl, total beach chic. I love Australian designers and labels such as Zimmerman. My style icons include Elle McPherson, Miranda Kerr and Diane Kruger.

Where has been your favourite travel destination? Croatia. I sailed from Split to Dubrovnick, it was incredible!

How do you keep your hair looking great after the beach? I am a surfer so I spend tones of time at the beach! I am really pedantic about rinsing my hair under fresh water as soon as I am out of the surf! I’ll even put a sunscreen spray through my hair if I know I’m going to be out there for a long time! Once or twice a week I also sleep with a conditioner in my hair as a treatment.

What do you love most about Oscar Oscar Salons? The friendly staff, their attention to detail and that confident feeling of walking out with glamorous hair!

What trends are exciting you for summer? The return of golden blondes and brondes - a colour between blonde and brown! Also a move towards looser curls for long hair.

What is your must-have hair product? I always have dry shampoo in my handbag, I use it for volume more than anything!

GET HER LOOK: "Liz is the ultimate beach babe and loves her honey blonde golden tones. I achieve this colour by alternating blonde tones from a natural hue to a warm honey blonde, I also keep some of her natural colour coming through so that her style is lower maintenance. For Liz's cut I gently shape the layers around her face to add volume and versatility when styling." Jemma Orford, Oscar Oscar Salons - Pacific Fair

Carmen Hamilton is one of Australia's leading fashion authorities, with her blog Chronicles of Her and an official Style Spy for Vogue Australia. We chat to Carmen about her love for Shu Uemura and the trends she is loving for Summer 14/15.

Describe your style…

Classic with a modern twist, polished and uncomplicated.

What advice do you have for aspiring bloggers?

If you want to make a business out of it, you need to love it for the right reasons. The perks grow old - earning the privilege to create and share something that other people want to read for a living is the biggest reward.

Also, perseverance! Make it your own little world and put your whole heart into it.

What is your hair care routine?

I'm all about Shu Uemura! I love the oil cleansing shampoo. I always start with that at the roots, followed by Moisture Velvet and then a volumising conditioner.

After each wash I tong my hair and add a bit of sea salt spray or texturising powder.

What do you love most about Oscar Oscar Salons?

Until I found Paloma and Michael at the Paddington salon I had never left a hairdresser feeling 100% happy. They help me to push the boundaries a bit and I always love the result. And they tell good stories!

What trends are exciting you for summer?

Lots of white.. and flats!

What is your must-have hair product?

Texturising powder, such as the Shu Uemura Volume Maker brush!

GET HER LOOK: "Carmen likes to keep her look effortless but with a bit of edge, so that her overall style is not too feminine. For her colour I created micro-highlights in tones of coffee and caramel through the interior of her hair for depth and dimension. I also personalised the colour by creating the illusion of more length with freehand cascading balayge in buttery honey-wheat hues. The placement of the balayge is random and deconstructed for a lived-in feel, nothing too polished, it's a raw and edgy look." Michael Kelly, Oscar Oscar Salons - Paddington
