Australia’s largest hairdressing award program, the Australian Hair Fashion Awards (AHFA), has announced Oscar Oscar Salons’ Melbourne-based stylist Steffi Tanian as the 2016 Newcomer of the Year.
Judged by a panel of renowned international industry experts, the AHFA (now in its 24th year) receives hundreds of entries each year from Australia’s hairdressing elite, and last night brought together the industry’s best for the annual awards gala event, which was held at Sydney’s iconic Luna Park.
Adding another trophy to her collection, Steffi, who has been named as an AHFA winner twice previously, now adds another win to her shining hairdressing portfolio – an impressive feat for the 23-year-old senior stylist of Oscar Oscar Salons Highpoint, Melbourne.
“I have found such a fantastic support network within the Oscar Oscar Salons team and they’ve provided me with the foundation, education and encouragement to foster my career but also challenge my abilities, which has positioned me where I am today.”
With deep-rooted passions in editorial and catwalk styling, Steffi is known for producing intricate and creative colour work on a day-to-day basis with her winning photography collection – the beautifully named ‘Odette’ – a true indication of Steffi’s exceptional talent.
Drawing inspiration from the elegance and fragility of the feminine role as portrayed in the classical ballet, the ‘Odette’ photographic collection aims to create a juxtaposition between the ethereal women and gentle form of ballet and the decay that lies beneath… the flaws in the character - just as it’s portrayed in the Odette story.
“Tight twists leading into a billowing ponytail, hair weaved tightly into itself then pulled apart to create an undone texture, small loops of hair separated by hand to produce a whimsical, fly-away effect, were all methods I employed with my ‘Odette’ collection,” explains Steffi.
